So Much Pretty

I love interior design - not in the traditional sense, but in the endlessly creative ways people express their interests and personalities.  If I had the time and resources I would be changing my decor every year - there is too much to love!  I also wish I could raise my ceilings a few feet but that is neither here nor there! :)  In any case, I need a dose of pretty and these random rooms are the answer.

We are in the market to buy more (I know, more) bookshelves and I cannot decide what color wood would look best in the room - these white shelves are calling my name at the moment!  The room they're going in has dark wood floors and a painted, white, floor-to-ceiling, brick fireplace.  Too much white?  The only other 'must' for the room is a black and white, round, chevron printed rug (love) and a loveseat in an undecided color/fabric.  What do you think?  I can't decide!

[Sorry, I cannot remember where I found these images - it was quite some time ago!]

Happy Friday!

PS - J and I saw Kevin James and Ray Romano last night and I am still laughing!

More Boo

This year was the very first year I've welcomed trick-or-treaters to my home.  I moved out of a neighborhood to the country when I was five and grew up with only one neighbor.  Even though we've been in our house two years now, we have somehow missed both Halloweens!

I shot a few scenes of our home (check out the new paint job while you're at it) in all it's Halloween glory.  What is it about this holiday that makes me so giddy?

By the way - disregard the dying grass and bare flower beds in our front yard.  That is our next project.  I could probably start an entire blog on the front yard!

Find Your Inspiration

After a longer-than-anticipated hiatus from this space (and after some gentle prodding from friends) I feel it is time to return.

I needed to take a step back and breathe.  To enjoy my every day life and to ensure that I was not feeling "pressure" to find/force inspiration.  There truly is an infinite amount of inspiration in our lives - usually it is simple and can only be seen when you look for it directly.  I'm ready to be back in this space to share my life's many inspirations.

And so I pose this question to you:  What is inspiration?

For me it is simple.  It is anything that sparks my heart and brain.  It gets me giddy.  Most importantly it is something that fills me with the intention and possibility of being a happier, more dynamic me.

[Fox, Piper, and me were having fun with Photo Booth.  I love my dogs!]

Brooklyn Brownstone

If you know me you know I love any and all things Keri Russell.  I think she's such a doll.  And, yes, I have quite the love for Felicity.  She lives a seemingly simple life outside of the Hollywood radar so it's a special treat to read about her in magazines.  Keri Russell's (renovated, by her husband!) Brooklyn Brownstone is featured in this month's issue of Elle Decor.  Fun!

The dark wood and white walls give the apartment such a fresh, organic feel.  I'm such a fan of mixing materials such as woods, metals, and fabrics.  I think they did a great job decorating this home!

My very favorite part:  the baseboards!  TO.  DIE.  FOR.

Matisse

I am really inspired by this piece of art by Henri Matisse - Interior Flowers and Parakeets.

Our bedroom is the only place in the house with bare walls.  If you know me, I don't like bare walls - I want to be interested in every room I visit.  We have a grouping of three Moroccan glass lanterns hanging in one corner of the room (opposite our bed) and I think the print above would look fabulous on the same wall.  A tarnished silver or bronze frame would look great!

I also love the print below (also by Matisse), Music.  I am very fond of groupings - do you think these two pair well together?  I can't decide.  I think a third piece is needed to tie the two together or perhaps this piece is better suited to another space altogether.

I love knowing I could wake up every morning see this prints first thing.  They're so rich and colorful!  Are they too different to pair together?  Your thoughts?

Pouf-tastic

I.  Love.  Poufs.

Especially this exotic, funky, golden Moroccan embroidered pouf.  I want to have this pouf in my living room.  Poufs are perfect accent pieces that are both practical and easy on the eyes.  They provide decoration and extra seating!

Feast your eyes on these great finds!

Home Sweet Home

James and I have returned from our (fabulous) honeymoon and today is my first day back to work!  It is bittersweet to be home (and especially bitter to be back to the office) but after a week I will be readjusted.  It's always nice to be happy about returning home after such an adventure - I'm so happy (and lucky) to love my home life!

Posts to come (with pictures) of all our destinations!
