Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday!  Alas, I am holed up at the office (7 more working days of tax season...) but I celebrated over the weekend by getting my nails done, enjoying a delicious Indian dinner with friends (which is exactly what I did last year!) and then dancing the night away.  I was so lucky to have my best friend in town for a second year in a row (I'm so spoiled now) and it really made everything extra special.

Tonight J and I are going to a nice dinner and then I hope to stay awake long enough to relax at home!  These looooooong, looooooong work weeks + workouts + sleepless nights have officially caught up to me and you can tell by my blog.  I hope to be back soon, friends.  I don't like that work consumes my life and leaves me with little energy to do much else.

And since it's Tuesday... how about one of my favorite songs for my birthday:

"...Oh, it doesn't mean much... it doesn't mean anything at all... and sweet surrender, is all that I have to give..."

Tuesday Tune (Christmas)

More Christmas songs!  I love Christmas music and I try to listen as often as I can this time of year and I can't forget about my favorite lady:

The First Noel / Mary, Mary

Tuesday Tune

An amazing singer, songwriter, artist, and woman.  For me, her voice is perfection.  I've been in a Sarah kind of mood lately!

Also, I'd give anything to travel back in time to attend the Mirrorball tour!  In fact, I played that album so much I recently had to buy another copy!

Here is another of my absolute favorites:

"All the fear has left me now, I'm not frightened anymore, it's my heart that pounds beneath my flesh, it's my mouth that pushes out this breath..."

Tuesday Tune

We had a very busy holiday weekend and now it's back to the grind!  On this gloomy day (when is summer going to arrive??) I need some comforting sounds and NOBODY fits the bill better than the one and only Sarah McLachlan.  My absolute, forever favorite.

*Swoon*

"...and sweet, sweet surrender is all that I have to give..."

Bring on the Wonder

Last night's yoga class marked two months of continuous practice!  In early December I decided to give yoga another try.  I'd tried it only once before and I felt I needed to give it another go and to devote myself more fully.  Even though it's only been a short two months, I'm already feeling such a connection and devotion to my practice.

My yoga practice gives me the time my soul needs to rejuvenate and RELAX!  It's tough for me (and everyone else, right?) to take time away from my often-times hectic, overstimulated, noisy, frustrating, days to be still, quiet, mindful, and introspective.

Tonight I left class with a smile on my face!

"...bring on the wonder, bring on the song, I pushed you down deep in my soul for too long..."
-Performed by Sarah McLachlan (Bring on the Wonder, from Laws of Illusion), written by Susan Enan

[These photos are of our Amaryllis bulbs that have finally bloomed!  They're commonly referred to as "the Christmas flower".  It may not be Christmas but they're still gorgeous!]

Tuesday Tune (Christmas Edition!)

"...oh, tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy..."

I discovered this version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen a couple years ago and I am still so inspired by the voices of Sarah McLachlan (of course) and the Barenaked Ladies.

One of my favorite Christmas songs!

Awakenings

(Readers beware:  Sarah McLachlan's new album is my newest love and I can't help but to share her words here.  It's not hard to get lost in her lyrics, voice, and music.)

"Oh I wanna learn, I wanna know
Will our history crush us or can we let it go?
I'm not so willing anymore to bend
Still pleasing and conceding
but I'm not gonna lose myself again."

Tuesday Tune (My Love)

How could I NOT have a post in celebration of Sarah McLachlan's newest release?

Tuesday Tune

I have to refrain from featuring a Sarah McLachlan song every Tuesday.  She is an amazing artist and she is one of my favorite singers, hands down!

"Loving You is Easy" is her first single from her new album, Laws of Illusion and I.  Can't.  Wait.  until my pre-ordered copy arrives!
